If an atypical country getaway is what you’re looking for with the convenience of modern fixtures and fittings then this could be the place for you. Great care has been taken to ensure you have everything you need making this a home from home. Ashton Wold is truly special with unspoiled countryside and woodland areas in abundance. Please click on the link below to find your perfect holiday house. Guests can book one house or all six!
The owner will consider one or two small well-behaved and house trained dogs, please enquire.
The holiday properties are finished with an emphasis on quality, in a style that is both comfortable and elegantly modern. The solid oak finishes and natural features make each house individual.
The location is rural but conveniently close to amenities including the local market town of Oundle rich with its excellent independent shops. It is not uncommon to spot an assortment of animals on the estate including deer, badgers, squirrels, foxes, rabbits, red kites and many more.
The holiday houses are available to rent all year round and the changing seasons offer something different with each visit.
Have a look at the facilities page for each house, here we list the beds in each house and what you can expect to find in the property. Every endeavour is made to ensure these items are in the properties but we offer no guarantee. If you book more than one house and during your stay you move the items from one house to another it is vital that you put it back in the house it originated in eg. chair, cheese grater etc
The Estate (OHL Limited) has restored many original features whilst still incorporating high standards to workmanship including modern kitchens and bathrooms. If you wish to learn more about the history of the buildings please visit our Ashton Estate page.
Please note that due to the rural location, phone signal can be poor. Wi-fi and internet access is not always guaranteed for the same reason so please take this into account when making a booking.
The Turner House
“We had the most fantastic family holiday here, so relaxing and peaceful.
This property really made you want to stay longer, like home away from home.
The interior was beautifully furnished and decorated, really well thought out.
The beds were very comfortible and we “LOVED” those pillows.
We found there was lots of activity to do in the area from water sports to biking, hiking or just exploring the amazing architecture at every turn.
We would recommended this Holiday rental for families and really perfect for groups on get away holidays.”

The Constable House
“Beautifully decorated and situated in such a peaceful setting. Highly recommended”
The Turner House
“It was a great pleasure to stay in Turner over Christmas. Carol gave us a warm welcome on arrival and plenty of helpful information. The house is very spacious (we were a party of 9), warm, beautifully furnished and decorated whilst retaining its historical charm and character. It is very well equipped throughout, particularly the huge kitchen which is fitted out to a very high standard. The beautiful Christmas tree in the living room was a thoughtful touch and the welcome gift of chocolates and mince pies was much appreciated. The woodland setting was great for walks and cycling. We spotted deer amongst the trees, birds of prey and a woodpecker. From Ashton village, we enjoyed walks on the Nene Way. It was also very convenient for Oundle and Peterborough. We would rate the quality of the accommodation very highly and would love to stay again”.

The Gainsborough House
“We had the most fantastic Christmas week in the Gainsborough House! The Christmas decoration was lovely and the house itself is beautiful. It was very well equipped and we didn’t want for anything! Spotlessly clean it provided us with a magical place to stay over Christmas. We definitely hope to be back and make use of the Shepherd hut for Summer evenings and the BBQ. Thank you Carol for making us feel so welcome and for the lovely welcome treats”.
The Constable House, New Year
“We spent a wonderful New Year in Constable House with some of our friends. The property was spotlessly clean, very well-equipped and the perfect size for a group of friends (8 adults and 5 small children). The surrounding woods and countryside are great for exploring and looked magical on a frosty morning. We didn’t spend much time in the Shepherd’s Hut (bit cold!) but I can imagine a summer break would be wonderful here. Lovely touches too – such as the ‘welcome’ gifts and festive decorations. Would definitely recommend it.”

The Gainsborough House
We are a group of five female friends and used this location as a craft retreat and a relaxing getaway. We wanted somewhere to stay that would be spacious enough to allow for individual peace yet also enable us to be sociable with each other. Our aim as a group of crafters was to have some space to share our crafts with demonstrations for each other. This property was beyond perfect for all our needs. Unexpected outside space gave us an opportunity to re-charge our energy in idyllic surroundings – of course the weather helped enormously as we got a gorgeous and sunny weekend.
The property (Gainsborough) is really well thought out in both design and layout; we all loved that we could be sociable while cooking and relaxing and crafting at the table! We felt that the decor was luxurious yet comfortable enough to really relax.
As the lead person booking this trip I was thrilled that the property was so well equipped and we wanted for nothing (ooo, except perhaps more loo roll and a potato peeler!)
The WIFI isn’t the strongest signal and there is very poor mobile signal coverage but we managed. One member of our party had unfortunately to do some work to a deadline and the property manager was able to ensure that she had use of a separate property with better internet access and couldn’t have been more helpful.
We just can’t wait to return and repeat the whole thing again next year!
Having recently returned from a wonderful stay at the recently renovated Morland Manor, I can highly recommend both the property and location of Ashton – perfect for our group of friends who travelled from London/Birmingham/ Milton Keynes to this central location. With both the Chequered Skipper (pub) and Oundle within walking distance, we were spoilt for choice for lunch and dinner options out, however, New Years Eve was spent around the dining table, seating 10 for a fantastic dinner party, prior to bringing in the New Year.
Thoroughly looking forward to a return visit, in the summer, to visit the property once all the leaves are on the trees and this idyllic spot is even more hidden away.
Lady Rothschild Dairy
We were so lucky to find this beautiful country retreat for our wedding celebrations. First off, the property is within private land, and feel very safe to jog around and see the beautiful surroundings. We have a 3 years old daughter, and the courtyard has gate where you can close it up, so you are never too worried your child playing outside and wandered off into the woods. The property itself is very well maintained, beautifully curated, and with high quality standard of living. We rented The Constable, all the rooms are very spacious and beautifully dressed. Every corner of the house is very clean, and it really is a home outside home.
And what a bonus that almost every corner of the house is perfect for our wedding photos!!
It’s god sent we were also able to hire a private caterer (Beetroot Catering), recommended by Carol for both our wedding reception and wedding breakfast. The food was so beautifully cooked, and everyone enjoyed both the surroundings and food so much! There’s none other private dining experience can compare to such as this one! In my opinion, it beats a wedding at a hotel, and we were so happy we did it this way, both private and the high quality of dining still maintained!
We highly recommended The Lady Rothschild Diary, and will definitely be coming back again!!! Thanks again!
Lady Rothschild Dairy
We hired The Lady Rothschild Dairy as accommodation for our family and friends whilst they attended our wedding. We loved the houses as soon as we saw them and our guests loved them too. The houses have beautiful decoration, fixtures and fittings but are very homely. The setting is beautiful and Carol and Guido were most helpful from the initial enquiry, booking, viewings and even taking deliver of our food order. We all had a wonderful, special wedding weekend, which we will always remember – we can’t wait to visit again x
We married in August 2018 and were lucky enough to be the first to use the amazing Renaissance Rooms as our wedding reception venue. Our guests were staying in the other six holiday properties on the Ashton Wold Estate so the whole event was as much a family holiday as a celebration.
The Renaissance Rooms make a truly perfect wedding breakfast venue and as we were staying there for the week we had time to help set up the sitting room, which used to be the Rothschild’s family ballroom, but also to relax after the wedding and have a mini honeymoon. The sitting room is perfect for up to 65 guests so only really requires flowers as it’s already a stunning room and it’s difficult to see how additional decoration would improve it.
Our caterers were local and did a brilliant job developing and delivering a menu that went down extremely well indeed with our guests. Ian, who led the team, is a seasoned veteran, having run the nearby Chequered Skipper pub for many years, and that really showed on the day – right from welcome drinks through to clearing away at the end of the event. Carol, the very helpful Ashton Estate Manager, knows Ian and another excellent catering company too and will be able to recommend trusted sources for flowers, entertainment and photography etc.
Whilst it is very useful to look at photos of the venue and other holiday accommodation on the Estate they really don’t do the place justice. It’s difficult to appreciate how all the properties fit within their setting, especially the Renaissance Rooms set within spectacular mature woodland. I’d thoroughly recommend viewing the Estate to truly appreciate that ‘fairytale’ feel that several of our guests commented on. Combined with the excellent Chequered Skipper pub for our evening reception, a little over a mile down a largely private country lane, we really couldn’t have had better venues to celebrate our wedding!
